Artist's Comments

this memoir is about living scenerios, and how in having a roommate despite who the person is, you have find ways that both parties can use that space for their own purposes.

so with this painting I devised 2 separate compositions, one for the male character... myself.... and one for the female my girlfriend... we both are using the same space, which the light and as an element of the space Binds the 2 worlds... of the man and female

The light acts as the allegory of the situation... that light is the space, and light binds.

Without the light, the painting would be disjointed and separated.

This is stunning! When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a photograph! I was so surprised, but this is even better! Amazing anatomy, wonderful technique. The shading is gorgeous too, as are the details. I'm really stunned by this, I have no real words for it. The sepia is nice, but it's a little pale, maybe you could consider some more colours? Still amazingly beautiful though.
Great work!

wow, such a skilled painting, i think the super toned down, almost absent, color is nice here,
the contrast in values really holds tightly with the light beam and all.
the setup with you two in it is interesting too ^-^
:iconartistxero:
did you pose seperately?..how long did this take to do and is it done in oils?

this is really great.. great story telling... not only the light binds, but you both have on the same flip-flops...

this is great...

Amazing work Tom. You never cease to amaze me. You've always been a great artist, this is definitely your calling. Great composition, that is inded cool how the light holds them together.

three suggestions for an already fabulous painting.

one: that odd patch of hair on your head should be corrected

two: coming from another artist who lives with their boyfriend/girlfriend i find it odd that there is no sheet under the canvas, yet no drips of paint on the floor, the image looks somewhat contrived because of that.

three: i personally cannot tell what she is doing, so for all one may know she is just your model waiting in the wings, i think you need to make whatever she is playing with in her hands more obvious.

however it is stil a beautifully painted painting

Gorgeous! I love how you used very neutral colors and kept it without a lot of contrast. Very realistic and amazing composition.
